Paul Cardew - Sunshine Ceramics Pigs
In 1983 it was Paul Cardew (Sunshine Ceramics) that were commissioned to produce the Natwest Pigs. In the early 1980's there were over 2,500 Natwest branches of which Paul was asked provide 800 complete sets which sat within the branch. Over the last 10 years only 2 full sets have been seen advertised for sale which corroborates the rarity of these particular items.
If you can find an original set of sunshine ceramics pigs that are in good condition without crazing then expect to pay £1000+
Paul Cardew also released a 25th anniversary set in 2007, modelled on the original set but with each pig having some silver detailing, there was also a 6th pig in this set known as "beatrice". On the base of each pig you will note the numbering sequence that identifies 2500 sets being commissioned, its rumoured that less than 500 are in circulation. These sets can sell for £350+.
Natwest commissioned a limited set of painted footballer and fairies, there were only 25 pairs made and these can fetch over £1500+ for the pair.
Paul Cardew also released full colour versions of the footballer and the fairy, these were produced in limited numbers (100) and can fetch over £200+.
A special thanks to Paul for making a number of the items you see throughout this website available to me.
